Val Sweyn Vore

Val Sweyn Vore, 88, of Hilliard, Ohio passed away peacefully on July 9, 2025. Born on August 14, 1936 in McArthur, Ohio, he was the son of Robert and Elinor (Kinneer) Vore. He was a graduate of Central High School and The Ohio State University where he received Bachelor's and Master's degrees in music education. He taught instrumental music in the Columbus Public Schools for 39 years and played timpani and percussion in the Columbus Symphony Orchestra for 32 years. He also performed with the Central Ohio Symphony Orchestra, the Brass Band of Columbus, and many other bands and orchestras in the central Ohio area during his 60 years of making music.

Val was a member of Scioto Ridge United Methodist Church for 55 years and loved singing in the choir. He also sang in various choirs from the age of 9 and directed choirs at several churches. He enjoyed many outdoor activities: biking, swimming, playing tennis, bird watching, canoeing, camping, and backpacking. He walked a 10K Volksmarch in all 50 state capitals, walked in all 88 Ohio county seats, and hiked 700 miles of the Buckeye Trail.

Val was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 64 years, Martha Vore; children: Carol Browning and Eric (Julie) Vore; grandchildren: Paul Browning; Sydney, Alex (Reign) and Ivan Vore; sisters: Diane Brant, Marilyn Vore, and Janice Stoneburner; many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Scioto Ridge United Methodist Church, 4343 Dublin Rd., Hilliard OH 43026 on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation prior to the service will begin at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Scioto Ridge United Methodist Church or to Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks, 1069 West Main St., Westerville, OH, 43081.
