Suzanne Mates

Suzanne Mates was a devoted mother, faithful Christian, and engaged community advocate whose warmth and compassion touched all who knew her. Suzanne Mates, age 76, of Powell, Ohio, passed away on April 10, 2026. She retired from the US Postal Service, dedicating many years to serving her community through her work. Beyond her career, Suzanne was widely recognized for her kindness, particularly in small acts that reflected her care for others. A faithful Christian and devoted family member, Suzanne prioritized her loved ones. She was preceded in death by her son, Scott Mates; her parents, Lewis and Leona DeVault; and her sister, Sandra McCoy. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Rodney Mates; her daughter, Darla Ratliff; her son, Todd (Michelle) Mates; and her brother, Louie (Maretta) DeVault. Suzanne was a proud grandmother to Jacob Ratliff and Christopher Mates, and her extended family includes nieces and nephews Sarah, Abby, Merrill, and Joseph DeVault; niece Melisa (Steve) Callahan; and nephew Michael McCoy. Her enduring faith, maternal love, and commitment to community service are reflected not only in her personal life but also in her professional contributions and the countless lives she touched through small acts of compassion. Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life: visitation is scheduled from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at Tidd Funeral Home in Hilliard, Ohio, with the funeral service at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, followed by interment at Wesley Chapel Cemetery. Suzanne’s life illustrates a legacy of love, faith, and practical kindness, leaving a meaningful impact on everyone she touched.
