Sondra Hurwood

Sondra Jean Hurwood,84, passed away peacefully on Saturday April 13, 2024, surrounded by her adoring family in Galloway Ohio. Sondra was born May 24, 1939 in Columbus Ohio. Sondra was the daughter of the late Clyde and Edith Moody (Rinehart). Sondra is survived by her husband of 44 years Gilbert Hurwood. Sondra, knew from childhood that she wanted to be a teacher. She had a passion for education and her leadership skills began at Monroe High School where she was president and valedictorian of her 1957 senior class. Sondra obtained her bachelor's degree at Ohio University. She then earned her master's at The Ohio State University in 1983. Sondra had a 40-year career as a teacher, 36 years as a second-grade teacher in Circleville Ohio. Sondra was a fierce advocate for equal rights. She participated in Collective bargaining for the teacher's union. She was past president of both Delta Kappa Gamma and the Circleville Education Association. She was preceded in death by Sister Laura Belle Moody and Brother Rick (surviving Brenda) Moody of Florida. Surviving Daughter Cathy (Richard) Withrow, Brother Maynard (aka Bubb) Moody, Favorite sister Bonnie (Tim) Summers, Brother Joe (Irma) Moody, Granddaughter Jalana (Paul) Caughey, Great grandchildren Colin Caughey 9, Bennett Caughey 6, LaVonne Caughey 4, numerous nieces, nephews and her Fur baby Lucy. Family will receive friends from 11am-1pm Friday, April 19, 2024 at the TIDD FUNERAL HOME, 5265 Norwich St., Hilliard, OH 4306; where funeral service will follow at 1pm. Interment Galloway Cemetery.
