Ronald Adkins

Ronald E. Adkins Jr., 68, peacefully passed away surrounded by his family at home on August 29, 2025.

Born on August 7, 1957, Ron was a proud graduate of Hilliard High School class of 1975. Shortly after, he married his high school sweetheart, Sharon Galentine, and together they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and family. Ron and Sharon would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on September 13, 2025.

Ron dedicated his career to the Hilliard City Schools, where he worked faithfully as a custodian for 32 years. Most of that time was spent at Weaver Middle School, where he touched the lives of countless students and staff. His family wishes to express deep gratitude to the Weaver Middle School community for the kindness and support they have shown throughout his battle with cancer.

In honor of his beloved grandson, Dakota “Cody” McLean, Ron spent 29 years donating to children in need. This act of love and remembrance reflected his generous spirit and deep devotion to family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ronald E. Adkins Sr.; his father and mother-in-law, Delbert and Emma Galentine; and his grandson, Cody.

Ron is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Galentine Adkins; his children, Manda “Mandie” (Mike) Coovert and Luke (Tondra) Adkins; his grandchildren, Michaela (Trevor) Derifield, Cole (Bayley) Coovert, and Wyatt Adkins; and his great-grandson, Westen Coovert. He is also survived by his mother, Zona Adkins; his siblings, Alan (Linda) Adkins, Linda (Mark) Irwin, Mike Adkins, and sister-in-law Denise (Tom) Greer; his brother-in-law, Del (Brenda) Galentine; and many nieces and nephews who adored him.

Ron’s greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend. His humor, kindness, and steady presence will be deeply missed but forever remembered.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, September 4, 2025, from 3:00 to 5:30 p.m. at Tidd Funeral Home in Hilliard. A short service will follow immediately after, officiated by Danny Vanscoy.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Ron’s memory to Hilliard Weaver Middle School, a place that held such a meaningful part of his life.
