Robert Poling

Oct 26, 1940 — Oct 12, 2026

Robert Hugh (Bob) Poling passed away peacefully at home on October 12, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family, just two weeks shy of his 86th birthday.

Born on October 26, 1940, in Morgantown, West Virginia, Bob was the son of the late Hugh Poling and Virginia (Voight) Poling. He was preceded in death by Gloria, his beloved wife of more than 55 years; his sister, Terry Pervola; and his brother, David Poling.

Bob and Gloria married on January 20, 1962, in North Tonawanda, New York, beginning a partnership built on love and family. Eventually, they settled in Columbus, Ohio in 1979, with their daughter, Karen, where they created a home filled with memories that would span generations. Following the passing of Gloria in 2017, Bob married Mary Ann Adams and welcomed her and her four sons and their families into his life and heart. Mary Ann also preceded Bob in death.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Karen Poling, and son-in-law, Brad Evans; his cherished grandchildren, Ari Evans and Dylan Evans; and his sister, Mary Jane Poling-Williams.

Bob found great joy in spending time with his family for daily dinners. Bob shared an especially close bond with his grandchildren, Ari and Dylan, moving to Hilliard to be closer to them. He was an exemplary grandfather; he was always present in their lives, a trusted confidant, enthusiastic cheerleader, and loving guide. Few things brought him greater pride than watching them grow and succeed.

A devoted friend, Bob treasured the many friendships he cultivated throughout his life. He enjoyed traveling, sharing meals, and creating memories with a close-knit circle of friends whose companionship enriched his life.

Bob believed deeply in service to his community. He volunteered weekly at the Hilliard Ohio Historical Society in the library and as a docent sharing with visitors Hilliard’s rich history. He was also a Fourth Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus, supporting charitable works and serving others through his faith.

Bob was a longtime member of the Parish Church at St. Elizabeth, an anchor of his faith that guided his life and inspired his commitment to family, community, and service.

Bob found relaxation and connection on the golf course, where he enjoyed both the game itself and the camaraderie it fostered. He also loved nature, exploring new places, and embracing opportunities for conversation and laughter.

Family and friends are invited to gather in celebration of Bob's life on Saturday, October 31, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Parish Church at St. Elizabeth, 6077 Sharon Woods Boulevard, Columbus, Ohio. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m., with internment and a luncheon immediately afterward.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hilliard Ohio Historical Society, 5274 Norwich St., Hilliard, Ohio 43026
