Robert "Bob" Suchy

April 9, 1948 — August 6, 2023

Robert “Bob” Suchy, 75, passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2023 following complications related to Parkinson’s disease.

Robert was born in Cleveland, Ohio to William and Margaret Suchy, the youngest of three children. He attended North High School Eastlake, where he graduated in 1966. Robert enrolled and served in the US Army following high school for two years, fighting in the Vietnam Conflict from 1969-1971. He was awarded several medals during his tour, including a Bronze Star and the National Defense Service Medal. Robert was honorably discharged from the US Army in 1971, and upon his return to the States, he enrolled in Cleveland State University. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a focus on accounting from Cleveland State. It was at Cleveland State that Robert met his wife Mary, and after a short courtship, the two were married in 1977.

Robert and Mary moved to Columbus, Ohio following their nuptials, where both pursued careers in accounting. Throughout his career, Robert served as an accountant for several Columbus-based businesses, from Custom Coach and LiquaBox to Scioto Downs, Columbia Gas, and Cardinal Health. Robert’s true passions were for music and Ohio sports teams. He could always be found humming a tune from The Kingston Trio and The Beatles, or cheering on his beloved Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Ohio State Buckeyes.

Robert loved going on vacations with his wife Mary, and daughter, Kendra. For him, the two “happiest places on Earth” were Walt Disney World and Las Vegas. A vigilant card shark, Robert enjoyed the math behind games like blackjack and poker, and would often discuss strategy with his daughter. An avid reader and consumer of the news, Robert enjoyed discussing current events and politics with family and friends. Robert, or “Such” as he was known by friends, had a quick wit and loved joking around. In his later years, the people he loved to laugh with the most were his grandchildren.

Robert is survived by his wife of 44 years, Mary, their daughter Kendra (Suchy) Schlunt, son-in-law James, and grandchildren, Penelope and Logan. He is also survived by his brother, Bill (Bea Miller), sister Marjorie (Bob Taylor), brother-in-law, Dan Patrick (Camille), sister-in-law, Margie O’Hara, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins, life-long friends, church friends, and all the nursing aides, PTs, and family friends who assisted Robert throughout his daily life in the past 10 years.

A viewing for family and friends will be held at Tidd Funeral Home in Hilliard, Ohio on Thursday, August 17 from 5-8 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Brendan Church in Hilliard, Ohio on Friday, August 18 at 10:30 a.m., with a procession to Wesley Chapel Cemetery for inurnment afterward. A luncheon at St. Bredan’s Church will follow shortly thereafter.
