Ollie E. (Gardner) Williams, 98, of Pompano Beach, Florida passed away on Thursday, August 11, 2022.  She was born in Byer, Ohio on December 19, 1923 to the late Earl N.and Jennie L. (Wallar) Gardner.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Joe Williams; her husband, Dwight Williams; siblings Rose Rinehart and John Gardner; in-laws Chet Rinehart, Beatrice and Walter Morse, Raymond and Mary Adelia Lewis,and son-in-law Roger Starrett .

 

Ollie graduated from Hamden High School in 1941 and was a member of the band where she played the trombone and played recreational tennis.  She was married to her husband Dwight for almost 57 years living on the family farm, Van Wert, Ohio, London, Ohio, experiencing being a “snowbird” in Lehigh Acres, Florida for almost 25 years, Dublin, Ohio and then Pompano Beach, Florida.  Ollie was a master seamstress, upholster, knitter and all round crafter; she loved to create.  

 

In retirement, Ollie volunteered at Friendship Village of Dublin in the Arts & Craft department and specialized in the Christmas Fair. She loved to decorate and celebrate all the holidays throughout the year.  Once she moved to Pompano Beach and joined the Court at Palm Aire Retirement Community, she organized a knitting group that donated infants' warming hats and blankets for newborns.  She was the Secretary for the Residence’s Committee and helped involve the residents in the community.  Ollie loved to socialize and be a part of a community.

 

A loving, devoted and wonderful mother and grandmother, Ollie will be dearly missed by her family.  She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Williams of Westerville; Joyce Williams and John Lynch of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; Kathy Williams of Columbus, Ohio; daughter-in-law Laura Hitchcock Williams; and grandchildren Brandon (Rita) Williams and Jessica Williams and Alex Adel, sister-in-law Carolyn Gardner of Wellston, Ohio and several nieces and nephews.

 

Calling hours will be on Thursday, August 18, from 11-12 noon; 12 noon the service will begin at Tidd Funeral Home 5265 Norwich Street, Hilliard, Ohio. Immediately following there will be a brief graveside blessing and interment at Plumwood Cemetery, London, Ohio.
