Nilah Eddy Hornyak (Jean), 85, passed away quietly at home August 19, 2021. She was born September 1, 1935 in Pleasants County, WV daughter of Michael and Mary (Jameson) Eddy. She attended St. Mary’s High School where she graduated in 1954. She worked briefly for the Federal Government in Akron Ohio where she met her husband Eugene Hornyak and they married in 1957. In 1958 she became a stay at home mom to six children which continued for the next 19 years. The family moved to Columbus, Ohio in 1968.  She was always there for her children including drop offs, pickups and attending every event her children participated in. There was always a delicious home cooked meal for the family. She returned to the job force in 1977, working for the Federal Glass Company and then the Ohio Department of Transportation until her retirement at the age of 60 in 1995. Her favorite things to do were driving, spending time with her grandchildren, cooking, reading, gardening and traveling. One goal on her bucket list was to travel to all 50 states which she completed with a trip to Hawaii in 2018. She was a charter member of Alpha Delta Kappa in Columbus that raised money for her favorite charity St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. She was a long-time member of the Groveport Senior Center where she enjoyed socializing, playing cards and traveling with her fellow seniors. Preceded in death by parents Michael L. and Mary (Jameson) Eddy, husband of 59 years Eugene (Gene) Hornyak, Siblings: Sister Genevieve Bills, Brothers Michael, Blaine and Paul Eddy, and sons-in-law Jack Loughrey and Michael Butterfield, grandson Kenneth Hornyak.  She leaves behind children: Debra Bhardwaj, Dinnette Loughrey, Teri Butterfield, Eddy (Denise Shoaf) Hornyak, Nancy Hornyak, Todd (Susan) Hornyak. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: John (Amy) Bragg, Melissa (Dennis) West, Heather (Fawzi) Araji,  Ethan Butterfield, Emily (Matt) Trein, David (Jane) Loughrey, Patrick Loughrey,  Maggie, Annie and Timothy Hornyak, Dana and Erin Gregan, Kimberly and Franklin Collins, Joseph Bennett, as well as great-grandchildren; Zachery and Loren West, Mckenzie Bragg, Jordan, Mackenzie and Jonathan Austin, Wyatt and Waylon Collins, Karson Trein, Ismaeel, and Silas Butterfield.  Family will welcome friends from 6-8pm on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at Tidd Family Funeral Home, 5265 Norwich St., Hilliard, OH 43026.  A funeral service will be held Thursday, August 26, 2021 11:00AM at Tidd Family Funeral Home.  Family and friends may call at 10:00AM.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Groveport Senior Center, 7370 Groveport Rd, Groveport, OH 43125 in her honor.
