Michael "Mike" J. Vaselakes

d. January 12, 2022

Michael “Mike” John Vaselakes passed from this earthly life on January 12, 2022, at his home in Hilliard, Ohio, from complications of COVID-19. He was born on July 17,1936, in Martins Ferry, Ohio to John and Anna Vaselakes.  He attended Martins Ferry High School and was a lifelong Purple Rider fan.  He enjoyed all sports, especially playing softball, attending Ohio State women’s basketball and OSU football games, and was an avid follower of the Pittsburgh Steelers.  He was also a proud member of the United Auto Workers (UAW) for over 50 years.  He enjoyed coaching basketball and did so for many years at the high school and middle school levels in eastern Ohio. Mike was also an active member of Resurrection Evangelical Lutheran Church (RELC) in Hilliard, where he served as an usher, played softball, and coached Upward basketball. And he would anticipate with much joy and excitement the annual vacation to an East Coast beach, which was a family tradition for 40+ years. His favorites: Hilton Head, Topsail, OBX, Rehoboth, & Myrtle.

Mike is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Louise (Sinkora), son Kevin, daughters Michelle (Steve) Davakis and Fran (Dave) Stidham, grandchildren Cassie (Andy) Cline, Brodey Mann, Nathaniel (Jenna) Davakis, and Anna Davakis, four great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, one sister Frances Auber, and sister-in-law Vicki (Terry) Banal.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Lillian (Frank) Uraco, and his sister-in-law Lydia Ann Shepherd.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, the funeral service will be private. A special thank you to Hospice of Central Ohio, Always Neighbors, and Comfort Keepers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Ohio https://www.hospiceofcentralohio.org/donate/donate-now/ or RELC https://www.relc.org/give/.  Online condolences can be offered at www.tiddfuneralservice.com.
