Mary G. Schroot

Mary Grace Schroot (nee Niehaus) was born January 9, 1949 to J. Henry and Marjorie Niehaus in Cincinnati, Ohio. She graduated from Seton High School in 1967. She later attended the University of Cincinnati, Ohio State University, and Wright State University, from which she obtained her B.A. in 1988. She married David Schroot, her high school sweetheart and lifelong dance partner, on January 2, 1970.

Mary was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt. She loved travel, experiencing new cultures, and easily made new friends wherever she went over the course of her life. She visited and enjoyed Canada, Japan, Mexico, England, Spain, Switzerland, Italy, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, the Falklands, many Caribbean islands, and many states. She especially enjoyed exploring our National Parks.

Mary also enjoyed game nights, dance parties, hiking excursions, camping trips, road trips, weekends at the cabin in the woods, family vacations to the beach, adventures with her family and friends, and supporting her children and grandchildren through Girl Scouts, school clubs, sports, and other activities.

Mary is survived by her husband, David; children, Angela, Lisa, Nicholas, and Marissa; son-in- law, Mike; daughter-in-law, Robin; grandchildren, Sophia, Zachary, Mara, Anthony, Jaxson, Benjamin, Henry, Nalah, and Amir; and siblings, John, Patricia, and Carol. She is preceded in death by her parents and grandparents; siblings, Shirley, Dolores, and Betty; and sister-in-law, Kathleen.

Mary will be dearly missed, but her joyousness, warmth, generosity, and love will remain in our hearts forever.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to one of Mary’s favorite charities: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Doctors Without Borders, and the National Parks Conservation Association.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Heritage Golf Club in Hilliard, Ohio, on Sunday, October 12, 2025, 4-7 p.m.
