Mary "Mitzie" Toth

July 21, 1937 — July 16, 2025

With deep love and gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of Mary “Mitzie” Toth, who left this world peacefully on July 16, 2025.

Born in Toledo, Ohio, on July 21, 1937, to Julius Gideon and Mary Joo, Mitzie was a woman of quiet strength, deep creativity, unwavering faith, and a remarkable sense of humor.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, Stephen Toth; her son, Tom Toth; her parents; and her brother, Bruce Bowers.

She leaves behind her loving children: Gary Toth (Jeannine), Kim Toth (Mel Sims), and Greg Toth (Catie); her 11 grandchildren: Ashley Driscoll (Chris), Matt Toth (Allison), Mary West (Blaine), Liz Toth (Jesus), John Toth, Tina Bronson (Jim), Rikki McDaniel (Kyle), Riley Toth (Hope), Veronica Sims, Abbey Donatelli (Jimmy) and Emma Toth.

She was blessed with 10 great-grandchildren — 8 boys and 2 girls — who brought her endless joy.

Mitzie’s creativity shone through her passion for porcelain doll-making. With Steve’s help, she cast, painted, and dressed unique dolls that won multiple “Excellence Awards” at conventions and shows across the Midwest. Her creations have become treasured family heirlooms.

She was a gifted cook, known for her authentic Hungarian dishes — recipes lovingly passed down from her mother and grandmother — which she shared with her family, preserving cherished traditions. From holiday breads and pastries to classic dishes like chicken paprikás, töltött káposzta (stuffed cabbage rolls), goulash, and her famous beef vegetable (Sunday) soup, Mitzie’s kitchen was always filled with warmth, love, and delicious aromas.

A loyal sports fan, Mitzie enthusiastically supported her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their sporting events and remained a devoted fan of the Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns, and The Ohio State Buckeyes.

She and Steve shared a lifelong love for Siesta Key, Florida, where they created countless joyful memories. They loved camping and going out on their boat when all the kids were young. The times that were shared with friends at Clark’s Lake will never be forgotten.

Throughout her career in Toledo, Mitzie worked at The Toledo Sports Center, Transervice Systems, and Superior Uniforms, where she retired. She later worked at Jeffery Mann Fine Jewelers, where she enjoyed buying gifts for her family and herself.

Mitzie and Steve moved to Hilliard, Ohio, to be near their daughter Kim and family. They lovingly cared for Veronica every weekend during tax season so Kim and Mel could work at their tax business.

After Steve’s passing in 2023, Mitzie moved into The Venera in Hilliard, where she quickly became a beloved part of the community. Her radiant spirit, warm heart, and unforgettable humor touched residents and staff. Whether playing Kings in the Corner card game or sharing a kind word, Mitzie had a rare gift for making people feel seen, heard, and loved.

A woman of steadfast Catholic faith, she was devoted to the Rosary, a practice that brought her strength and peace throughout her life.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Brendan the Navigator Catholic Church, 4475 Dublin Rd., Hilliard, OH 43026 on August 11 at 10:30 a.m.

Her life was a blessing. Her memory is a treasure. She is loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure.
