Margery Sagraves

d. February 23, 2024

Margery Sagraves, dearly loved by all who knew her, stepped into the arms of Jesus on February 23, 2024. Her warm personality, ready smile, and genuine care & concern for others will be greatly missed. She was truly a delight to be around and had a way of putting others at ease, with her love for Jesus always shining through in everything she did.

You couldn’t find a more dedicated employee. She worked for the Xerox Corporation for over 30 years and spent another 15 years working for OhioHealth prior to her retirement. Even after retiring, Margery was not one to sit around and relax; she was out and about visiting friends who were in nursing homes, the hospital, or just unable to get out. She made it a point to get around to them on a regular basis to remind them she was there, and she cared.  Her friendship was a precious treasure.

Growing up in Kentucky as a pastor’s kid, Margery became accustomed to traveling to various churches all over the area and singing to provide special music. Little did she know back then that she would marry a preacher, and the traveling and singing would continue for most of her life. She would tell you how blessed she felt to be part of her family growing up and how blessed she was to marry Robert (Bob) Sagraves, the love of her life and raise their daughter, Regina. They worked together in the churches Bob pastored. She could often be found in the pre-school classroom teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School with patience and joy, and anyone who witnessed it would tell you she was THE BEST at it. The children always adored her because they could feel how much she loved them.  For 36 years, they worked side by side while he pastored Hayden Run Enterprise Baptist Church in Hilliard, OH, and after Bob went home to be with the Lord in 1996, she continued working for the Lord and serving in the church. Margery also attended and sang in the choir at the Canaan Land Baptist Church in Grove City, OH for several years prior to moving to Tennessee. Beyond her home church, Margery could be found visiting many other churches during their revival services, camp meetings, and special singings. She loved being in church

Her grandchildren brought her so much joy, and she was so proud to share their accomplishments. She shared a special bond with them, and you could see her eyes light up whenever she talked about them. Once again, she counted herself blessed to have them. In fact, Margery regarded her life to have been blessed by God over and over; that’s not to say she never had a struggle or a hard time, but rather that she always focused on what God was doing for her rather than what was going wrong. It is no wonder everyone loved to hear her sing, “God is so Good to Me.” She believed every word and sang it from the heart.

Margery is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Sagraves, Mother, Maude Short, Father, Mickle Short, Brother, Carl Short and Sister, Brenda Gum.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Regina (Tony) Highfill, Grandchildren, Nathaniel Bollman, Michelle (Micah) White, Nichole (Sakhome) Highfill, Summer (Jamie) Rich, and T.J (Melia) Highfill, 7 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild, Sisters Helen Lagore and Elizabeth (Don) Johnson and Brother Billy Short
