Kay died January 24, 2026. She was born in Ironton, Ohio on October 4, 1939, the oldest of four daughters born to Benjamin and Neddie Hudson. She moved to Columbus at age 2 and was raised in Grandview. She moved to the West side in high school and graduated from West in1957. She went on to The Ohio State University and graduated in 1959 with an associate degree in dental hygiene. She married Ron Patterson in June 1959. She worked as a hygienist for several dentists, then they started their family. After a long career, she retired in 2008 after 22 years at the Columbus Health Department. Kay was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Penny (Burwell), her sister Lynne (Hudson), an infant grandson, Dustin, an adult granddaughter, Lindsay Kay, and her beloved husband of 63 years, Ron. She is survived by her sister, Holly (Rick) Cavallaro, her children Bonnie (Doug) Anderson, Penny Patterson, Benjamin (Shelley) Patterson, and Polly (Duane) Dixon. Grandchildren; Sean (Alyssa), Matt (Heather), William, Makayla, Georgia, Jadah, Jack, and Olivia. Nephew Nick Cavallaro and great grandchildren Faolan, Kieran, Sibeal, Evelyn, Trinity, Lincoln, and Ashton.
Kay was a breast cancer survivor. She was diagnosed with dementia in 2025 and spent the end of her life happy and comfortable at Carriage Court of Hillard surrounded by love from her family. Kay requested no service following her death. No surprise that she helped to write her obituary years ago. She was early to everything and always prepared! Her exact words were “Everyone go out for pizza and a coke like Ron and I did on our first date”.
Donations can be given to Lifeline of Ohio. The pizza party celebration of Kay’s life will be on a later date to be determined in the Spring.
