Joyce Williamson, age 91, of Delaware, Ohio, went to be with her Savior on Monday, April 13, 2026, at Grady Memorial Hospital with her family by her side.
Joyce was born December 14, 1934, in Canada, Kentucky. The second of six siblings, Joyce took on a role as nurturer from an early age. She attended Belfry High School and graduated in 1952. Her career as a secretary spanned several decades. As Joyce’s life took many unexpected turns, she relied on the power of Jesus Christ and of her deeply committed family to keep moving forward.
Joyce was a member of Dublin Baptist Church for many years, where she was involved with her “Joy Class” Sunday school group. In more recent years, she attended Calvary Baptist Church with her family in Delaware.
Joyce enjoyed being outdoors in the warm weather and stayed busy in the garden. She made hoeing corn look like art, and no one dared mess with her rows of “white half-runner” green beans. She loved to quilt. Saving bits of fabric aligned perfectly with her “waste not, want not” mantra. Joyce enjoyed reading nonfiction and spending time with family and friends. She was a hostess to everyone who stepped into her immaculate home – often preparing elaborate spreads for what was supposed to be a simple lunch. Big breakfasts were her specialty. Joyce loved to tell stories of the “olden days” and talk about how good our Heavenly Father is. He can even turn our shortcomings into something beautiful! She loved and served her family with a heart that reflected God’s love for His children.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents Charlie and Ethel (Blackburn) Williamson, her husband James Hurst, and three siblings Juanita (Williamson) Smith, David Williamson, and Bruce Williamson.
She is survived by her daughter Jennifer (David) Ebert of Delaware; her grand “treasures” Olivia (Walter) Greathouse of Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania, Charlotte (Zachary) Taylor of Powell, and Nolan Ebert of Delaware (attending Cedarville University); her great-grand “treasures” Josie Greathouse, Elouise Taylor, Mabel Greathouse, and Baby Girl Taylor; her brother Harold (Julia) Williamson, and sister Helen Smith of Hilliard; her step-son Keith (Patty) Hurst of Marysville and their wonderful family; and several much-loved nieces and nephews.
Visitation will occur from 1:00pm to 3:00pm on Sunday, April 19, at Tidd Funeral Home in Hilliard, Ohio. Pastor Fred Hand will officiate a service following the visitation. Joyce will be buried on Monday in Huddy, Kentucky.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Calvary Baptist Church, Delaware, Ohio.
