John Edgar “Jack” McConnell

1934-2022

Jack was born in southeastern Ohio on February 20, 1934, to the late Wilbur and Edna McConnell. Jack’s family relocated to Madison County during his childhood, but he never lost his love for the hills.

In school, Jack excelled academically, including his induction into the National Honor Society. After graduating from Mt. Sterling High School in 1953, he joined the United States Air Force and spent time in Germany. Following his military service, Jack worked for the Ohio State University before pursuing his talent and passion for building. Jack then spent the majority of his career in the construction industry, building many homes in the local community.

Jack loved fishing with friends and family, hunting for arrowheads, and photography. He was also a member of the Freemasons.

Jack married Joan Boss in 1955. They made their home and raised their family in Madison County.

Jack is survived by his 5 loving children—Kim (Dave) Bowling, Deon McConnell, Kathy (Mark) Kimbler, Troy (Teri) McConnell, and Michael (Martha) McConnell; 11 grandchildren—Joshua Duggan, Jessica (Brent) Davis, Jeremiah McConnell, Aleah (Gabriel) Page, Matthew (Hope) McDonald, Megan (Chris Anderson) McConnell, Jill (Micah) McClure, Renee McConnell, Kaelyn McConnell, Ruby (Derek) Amaya, and Leo McConnell; 11 great-grandchildren—Madison & Blake Davis; Wilson Page; Mack, Georgia, & Parker McDonald; Ella & Jolene Anderson; Clay & Brooklyn McClure; and Kaylan Begley; and several close friends, including Bobby Smothers and Carl & Tammy Castle.

In his later years, Jack enjoyed spending time with his faithful canine companions—Hooch, Zoom, Sheba, Tuffy, and Bubby.

In addition to his parents, Jack is preceded in death by his siblings—Robert McConnell, Samuel McConnell, and Marion Arno.

The family plans to hold a private Celebration of Life.
