John P. Ebert

October 17, 1930 — October 1, 2025

Hilliard, Ohio

John Benjamin Philip Ebert, age 94, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, surrounded by his devoted wife, Elaine, and loving family.

John was born October 17, 1930, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In 1951, he proudly joined the United States Marine Corps, serving honorably until 1953. After his military service, John returned to Milwaukee, where he founded the Tele-Tech TV stores, a successful business that served the greater Milwaukee area.

In 1958, John relocated to Columbus, Ohio, to start Scioto Beverage, Mack Distributing, and B & E Trucking with his father-in-law and mother-in-law Bob and Ethel McCann and wife Moreen. The company thrived, distributing Pabst, Blatz, and Lowenbrau beers throughout Central Ohio. After selling the business in 1977, John embarked on a new venture in commercial real estate, where he played a pivotal role in the revitalization of the Short North. He owned and renovated numerous properties along historic High Street, helping to shape the neighborhood’s vibrant character.

In retirement, John found great joy at Choctaw Lake and the Chippewa Flowage in northern Wisconsin, where he spent cherished time fishing, relaxing, and enjoying the natural beauty he loved so much.

John leaves behind a legacy rooted in faith, family, and a love for the outdoors. He will be greatly missed by his wife of forty years, Elaine F. Ebert; his daughters, Cherie (Rich) Erdlitz, Lauren (Sam) Thomas, and Jane (Mark) Perkins; his seven grandsons: Matthew (Angie) Erdlitz, Michael Erdlitz, Alex Thomas, Brian (Carly) Thomas, Eric Thomas, Nick (Claire) Perkins, and Dan Perkins. He was so blessed with a great-granddaughter, Ada Erdlitz, and a great-grandson, George Perkins. He is also survived by his step-daughter Leslie (David) Patzwahl, step-grandchildren: Philip (Kristy) Patzwahl, and Kelly (Rocco) Leno, step-great-grandchildren: Alexis, Maxwell, and Cameron. John was preceded in death by his step-son Carl Kurtis Conrad. Four nieces and many extended family members also survive.
