Jean Bernadette Morris (Kopf), aged 79, a greatly loved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away quietly at home on March 26, 2026 after a short battle with cancer. Jean leaves a large hole in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved her.
Jean was born in Jeffersonville, Indiana, and was the third of six children born to Rose Agnes Kopf (Tracy) and John Bernard Kopf. She and her fellow Kopf kids were army brats and wandered the land as John moved from base to base for his job. One of the highlights of moving around for Jean was a stint in Germany where she learned to speak German, identify excellent bread and pastry, and witnessed the mowing of lawns with sheep.
After their time in Germany, John retired from the Army, packed up Rose and the kids and took them back to the US and, finally, back to Columbus, Ohio where they remained permanently. Jean graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy in 1964 before continuing on to Ohio Dominican College (now ODU) to complete a B.A. in Psychology. Shortly after graduating, while working at Lum’s Restaurant, she met the charming James (Jim) Morris who convinced her to marry him. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2025.
Jean loved being a mother and had a close relationship with all her children. She taught them how to interact with others, how to share, and what was “fair” in life. She cleaned up their injuries, both the physical and mental ones, and instilled in them a very clear sense of right and wrong. She was very proud to tell people how nice her children were. Jean was a very devout Catholic and attended St. Brendan the Navigator in Hilliard, Ohio, where her husband is currently a Deacon. She was always happy to help others, was well-known for her baking skills (particularly chocolate chip cookies and white cake), and was the glue that held the family together. All the Morris kids, their spouses, and their children frequently visited Jean and Jim, taking over their house at least once every week or two. Jean got to see all her children, grandchildren, and sisters frequently before passing.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Rose and John, her oldest brother Jack (Susie), and her granddaughter Angel. She is survived by her husband, Jim; her children Margaret (Meg) Downing (Charles), Robert, Colleen Crowley (Bill), Michael (Katie), Patrick (Ashley), and Christopher (Mikie); as well as her grandchildren: Patton, John, Connie, Grant, McKena, Jackson, and Monroe; her siblings Mary Kay Conville (John), Margaret Thomas, Virginia Buehler (Dixon), and Michael Kopf (Laurie); and many nieces and nephews that she loved very much.
Jean’s Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00a.m. WEDNESDAY, APRIL 8, 2026 at ST. BRENDAN THE NAVIGATOR CATHOLIC CHURCH, 4475 Dublin Road, Hilliard, Ohio 43026 where family will greet friends before the Mass beginning at 10:00a.m. Jean will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Cemetery, Lockbourne, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. Brendan the Navigator-St. Vincent de Paul Society: St. Vincent de Paul Society, c/o St. Brendan the Navigator Church, 4475 Dublin Road, Hilliard, Ohio 43026.
