Jean Bletz

Jean Louise (Shaw) Bletz, of Hilliard, passed away on Friday, March 24, 2023. Born on April 21, 1931, in Mt. Washington, Pennsylvania, to Irvin and Louisa Schmidt, she was a month shy of her 92nd birthday. Jean graduated from Capital University in 1952, and married Donald Shaw. The two of them made their home in Hilliard, Ohio, where they became vital members of that community, impacting countless people through education and many other local activities. During those years, they raised two children, Karen (Christian) Yost, and Larry (Jenifer) Shaw. Donald passed away in1993. Jean remained active in Resurrection Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she and her family had long worshipped. In 1997, she married William Bletz, who survives. The two of them enjoyed many years, traveling with family and friends, often as they followed the OSU football team. Along with her husband and children, Jean is survived by her grandchildren, Donald Shaw, Lora (Anthony) Robertson, Brice (Emily Hothem) Yost, Alyson (Jaryd) Murphy, great-grandchildren, Jacob, Anthony, Donald, and Bridget, brother-in- law, Harry Hartsook, and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends. She will be missed by the Bletz family, as well. Jean goes to join her departed parents and family; including sisters Marie Wolfe, Ruth Snyder, Vera Hartsook, and her brother, Edwin Schmidt. The Tidd Funeral Home of Hilliard has been assisting the family with arrangements. There will be a brief period of viewing on Thursday, March 30, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., at Resurrection Evangelical Lutheran Church. The funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m., with Pastor Dave Kamphuis officiating.
