James Weller

April 7, 1949 — December 3, 2025

James Donald Weller, age 76, of Hilliard, went to be with his Lord on December 3, 2025, his loving wife by his side. Born April 7, 1949, in Ada, Ohio, the son of the late Reverend Malcom Donald and Helen (St. Clair) Weller. In 1985, Jim began a long and dedicated career with the State of Ohio. Starting in the mailroom, he worked diligently and humbly, rising through the ranks to become the Assistant Director of the Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections. Jim spent his life devoted to his family, his work, and the simple joys that brought him peace. Nowhere was he happier than near the water: whether walking along the beach in Florida, collecting shells, or watching the waves of Lake Erie from the front porch of Hotel Lakeside. He would sit for hours taking in the view and watching the boats, content in the quiet beauty of the Creation. He also enjoyed traveling and his family took many vacations, often visiting multiple states within a week. He was passionate about helping the less fortunate, often running collection drives at his work, while creating backpacks filled with essentials to hand out to anyone on the street he might pass by and making sure families were taken care of during the holidays. A man of kindness, humor, loyalty, and unwavering love, James was a steady source of strength for his family. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His presence, his laughter, and his gentle wisdom will be deeply missed and forever remembered. Jim was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Bengals, and the Cleveland Cavaliers, cheering the on with enthusiasm season after season. In 1970, Jim married the love of his life, Morea (Marion), with whom he shared 55 years of marriage and even more years of close friendship. He was her steadfast partner, her greatest support, and her constant source of laughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reverend M. Donald and Helen Weller; his sister, Sue Cline; his brothers-in-law, Richard Cline and Terry Hemsworth; and his niece, Rebekah (Cline) Thompson. He is survived by his devoted wife, Morea; his sister Jan Hemsworth; his children, Amber (Neil) Furr, Nathan (Holly) Weller; and his cherished grandchildren Haley, Samantha, Malina, Lydia, Abigail, Joanna, and Isaac, all of whom brought him immeasurable joy. Calling hours will be held at Guide Church, 4770 Britton Parkway in Hilliard from 5-7pm on Monday, December 15th, 2025. A Memorial Service will be held at Guide Church on at 10:30 am Tuesday, December 16, 2025 In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation or Wounded Warriors.
