James (Jim) Dewey Montgomery, 74 of Ooltewah, TN, formerly of Hilliard, OH, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 4, 2022, at his home in Ooltewah, TN.

He was born on January 24, 1948 in Scioto County, Ohio to the late James “Otis” Montgomery and Elnora I. Denning Montgomery.  Jim was a graduate of Hilliard High School, class of 1967.  He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1967 – 1971.  He retired from Hilliard City Schools, retiring after 33 years as the Maintenance and Operations Coordinator.

Jim’s hobbies included flying radio control airplanes and being a member of The Chattanooga Radio Control Club.  He enjoyed classic cars, especially showing off his 1967 Camero.  Jim was an active member of Silverdale Baptist Church, North Ooltewah Campus. 

Jim was a faithful husband, father and papaw.  He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Cindy; son, Greg and his wife, Takako; his pride and joy, Grace, his granddaughter; siblings, Leak Kitchen of Mansfield, OH, Les Montgomery of Dublin, OH, Roger (Lynne) Montgomery of New Bern, NC and Cheryl (Dan) Vesco of Plain City, OH; several nieces and nephews.  Jim loved his family and love kidding around with them.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 PM Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home in Chattanooga, TN.

The family will also receive friends from 6-8 PM Thursday, December 8, 2022, at Tidd Funeral Home, 5265 Norwich Street, Hilliard, OH 43026.

A graveside service will be held at 10 AM Friday, December 9, 2022 at Kingwood Memorial Park, 8230 Columbus Pike, Lewis Center, OH 43035, with Pastor Ken Harrell officiating.  

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:30 AM Friday, December 9, 2022 at the Northwest Bible Church, 6639 Scioto Darby Road, Hilliard, OH 43026 with Pastor Ken Harrell officiating. 

In lieu of flowers, that family requests that memorial contributions be made to The Samaritan’s Purse.
