James Hertenstein

d. April 8, 2022

It is with great sorrow that we announce James Hertenstein passed quietly in his home in Hilliard, Ohio on the morning of April 8, 2022. Jimmy was born January 18, 1950 to the late Guy and Mary Hertenstein.  After graduating from high school in Mountain View, Missouri, he joined the U. S. Navy where he served as a member of the Construction Battalion (CB) in Vietnam. After he returned from service, Jimmy followed in his father’s footsteps and made a career traveling the country as a long-haul semi-truck driver. Jimmy met and married his beloved wife, Darlene near Dallas, Texas where they lived for many years with their dogs and parrot, Charlie. Following the death of his wife Dar, Jimmy moved to Hilliard to be near his sister, brother-in-law, nephew, nieces and their families. Jim loved all things mechanical and took great joy during his retirement in restoring classic cars and attending car shows. Through his passion for cars, he found a community of great friends. Jimmy is preceded in death by his wife Dar and his parents Mary and Guy Hertenstein.  He is survived by his sister, Karen (Jim) Sturgill, nephew Steve (Gwen) Sturgill, nieces Rebecca Sturgill, Audra (Max) Beavers and Manda (Brian) Link, his spirited great-nephew Tucker Link, aunt Alice Rinke, and many cousins. According to his wishes, a simple graveside service will be held at Wesley Chapel Cemetery on April 22, 2022, at 2 pm.  If you wish to honor Jimmy’s legacy, please consider a donation to Capital City Hospice.
