James Gericke

James Leo Gericke, age 89, passed away at home while surrounded by his family on August 15, 2026 in Columbus, Ohio. He was born on August 25, 1936, in Defiance, Ohio, to the late Frances and Leo Gericke. Jim graduated from Ridgeville High School, where he proudly told everyone that he ranked 27 out of 27 in his class. After high school, Jim joined the Navy where he was stationed at Great Lakes Naval base before being deployed to the Mediterranean fleet during peace time. After being discharged from the Navy, Jim attended and graduated from Findlay College. Jim spent most of his career in the flooring business and owned and operated Durable Floors LLC for the past 25 years. He was deeply religious and loved his faith and his G-d. He was proceeded in death by his first wife, Shirley George Gericke, his parents and his three brothers, Lester, Russell, Gene and his beloved grandson Ryan Marcia. Jim is survived by his current wife, Joyce Gericke, his daughters Cindy Shearer (Rich) Cheryl Marcia (Tim) and his son, Jon Gericke, stepchildren Paul Prindle (Paula) and Kelly Winningham. He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was always the life of the party with his witty remarks and funny personality. Donations can be made in his name to the Lutheran World Relief Fund.
