Hazel Erwin

October 23, 1927 — September 7, 2023

Hazel was born on October 23rd, 1927 in Portsmouth, Ohio, to her parents of Roy and Flora Wright.  After a courageous and lengthy battle with health issues, she passed away on the morning of September 7th, 2023 at her home, at the age of 95, surrounded by her family and so much love.

Hazel grew up on a farm with her parents and 7 brothers in Hillsboro, Ohio.  Eventually moving to Portsmouth, Ohio where she worked at Ideal Dairy company.  It was there she met a handsome young man named Ernie Erwin.  They were smitten with each other and in time and on a dare from her friends, she asked Ernie if he wanted to marry her.  Ernie said he would think about it, and pretty quickly came back and said that would be ok with him, so they married.  That marriage lasted over 65 years and bore 3 sons, 1 daughter, 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Hazel felt her greatest accomplishment in life was her children.  Taking care of her family.  She spent her years focused on raising her children, keeping a home that was filled with unconditional love for her family and anyone who walked thru her doors.

Hazel was a tiny woman, but to all who know her, she had her moments of being feisty, stood her ground and you knew not to mess with her too much because she was a force all her own.  A loving mom, one of the greatest cooks, (pancakes were her specialty) and hard working always. She would be your biggest cheerleader when times were hard, helping to pick you up, dust you off, and get back on the path forward to overcome and succeed.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ernie Erwin and her grandson, Shaun Lewis, parents Roy & Flora Wright, brothers, Orville, Franklin, Denver, Marvin, Lawrence, Leonard and Dwayne.  Surviving relatives are her son, Ed Erwin, Jackie Lewis, Rob Erwin (Jackie Kay), John Erwin (Mary-Anne). Granddaughter Shannon Brewer (Dusty), grandsons: Ryan Erwin (Mandie), Austin Erwin (Kayla) and Brock Tettoni, Nieces and nephews, and two great granddaughters, Avalynn Lewis and Ruth Erwin.

After a life of hard work, sacrifice, devotion to her family and friends and following the Lord, she is now in His loving arms and He has no doubt rewarded Hazel saying to her, “Well Done My Child”.   And what a reunion she is having now entering into the presence of the Lord, and a joyous reunion with her Ernie, her grandson Shaun, all 7 of her brothers, and her mom and dad.
