Harry Hamer

d. January 9, 2020

Harry M. “Marty” Hamer, 71, of Galloway, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on January 9, 2020, following a four year battle with colon cancer.

Marty was born to the late Harry and Elizabeth “Betty” Hamer, on June 6, 1948, in Youngstown, OH. He graduated high school from Cardinal Mooney and college from Youngstown State University with a degree in accounting. He worked for 25 years as an accountant for the Edward J. DeBartolo Corporation in Youngstown.

Marty was an avid fan of fishing, the Browns, Indians, Penguins, and Buckeyes, but his greatest loves were his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and his family. He married his beautiful bride, Sue Ann Harris on July 8, 1972 and they were the best of friends for over 47 wonderful years. Marty faithfully served in many roles at Bailey Road Baptist Church in North Jackson, Grace Ridge Bible Church in Mineral Ridge and Northwest Bible Church in Hilliard. He especially enjoyed helping with the GIVE Store in Awana and readying more than 1600 t-shirts for Vacation Bible School every June.

Marty is survived by his wife, Sue; his sons, Keith (Theresa) Hamer of Cedarville, Craig (Reena) Hamer of Tartu, Estonia, and Matt (Lisa) Hamer of Galloway; his nine grandchildren Morgan, Christopher, Oskar, Alex, Nora, Hans, Evin, Brenton and Drew; his brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Jan Hamer; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Donald and Elizabeth Harris; several nieces and nephews; and beloved relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, January 15 from 6-8pm at Northwest Bible Church, Hilliard, OH. A celebration of life service will be Thursday, January 16 at 11:00am with family and friends being received from 10am until the service time at Northwest Bible Church with Pastor Ken Harrell officiating. A private family burial at Alton Cemetery will follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Going UP Ministries-America.
