Gordon Mace

Gordon Albert Mace, lovingly known as “Rick,” unexpectedly passed away at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio, on September 8, 2025, at 12:19 a.m. He was 55 years old. He is survived by his daughters, Kelsey (Jerry) Harper and Ocean Mace; his son, Giovanni Mace; stepdaughter, Amber (Elijah) Hiser; and stepson, Arron Dunson. He was a proud grandfather to Jerry, Jase, and Karlee Harper, Dezhan, Cassien, and D’Angelo Hodge. He is also survived by his sisters, Nadine Beverley and Lynne (Welby) Bonner; his stepbrother, Rick Mace; stepsister, Sally Garrison; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Douglas Mace, and his mother, Mary Agnus Bivens Mace. Rick had a big heart and carried deep love for the mothers of his children, always reaching out to check on them even when life had taken them in different directions. He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life—football, fishing, pizza, and cheeseburgers. Above all, he loved his children and grandchildren dearly. Rick lived a hard life and did not always make the best decisions, but he was surrounded by many people who did everything they could to help him along the way. While his passing brings great sadness, we find peace in knowing that he is no longer suffering from the challenges of mental health, addiction, and the lifestyle that weighed heavily on him. We wish there had been more time for good memories together, but we trust that God called him home when it was his time. A private viewing for his children will be held. Rick will be cremated, and a celebration of life will be planned at a later date with his immediate family.
