d. August 10, 2022

Galloway

Dr. Glenn A. Iben, age 72, of Galloway, Ohio went home to be with the Lord on August 10, 2022, where he is now making rounds with St. Luke, The Great Physician.

Born in New Brighton, Pennsylvania to the late John and Jean (McNutt) Iben, Doc, as his neighbors called him, knew from the time he was younger than 10 years old that he wanted to be a doctor.  After graduating from high school in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, he went to university at Franklin and Marshall, where he met his wife of 48 years, Susan.  Glenn then received his medical degree at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Following that accomplishment, he spent ten years in the Navy, stationed at Camp Pendleton, California and Charleston, South Carolina.  He achieved rank of Lieutenant Commander.  His next endeavor was as Associate Professor of Family Practice Medicine at The Ohio State University.  Healing, teaching, and simply being there for others in their time of need was his life’s calling.  After his stint at OSU, he was a Family Medicine doctor in Fredericktown, Ohio, where he practiced for almost 15 years, and served as the Clear Fork football team doctor. Dr. Iben then practiced medicine in the city of Columbus, Ohio for the remainder of his medical career as a doctor and medical director.

He was a compassionate healer, teacher, prolific storyteller, and an advocate for the underdog and strived his utmost to alleviate suffering. He loved to laugh and was always ready with a joke and to remind everyone of the funny moments from the comics Dilbert and The Far Side

His love for his family is what we will remember the most. He was always available for a chat, providing wisdom and strength with every conversation. His grandchildren loved him most of all and their faces would light up as soon as they saw him.  He gave his entire life, soul, and body to the world and for that, the world is a better place.

Dr. Iben was preceded in death by his parents, John and Jean, and his wife’s parents, Thomas Ellis, Jr. and Margaret Ellis and many cherished pets. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Susan (Ellis) Iben of Galloway, Ohio, his daughters Erika (Josef) Iben and Katrina (Dan) Lallo, son Kurt Iben, his sisters Brenda Iben (Thomas Flook), and Bonnie (David) McCall, brothers John (Linda), Rodger (Betty) Iben, and Gordon Iben, grandchildren Lukas, Nikolas, Natasha, and Gianna, and many beloved nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors, former patients, and members of the Iben and Ellis families.

Family will receive friends 4:00p.m.-6:30p.m. TUESDAY, AUGUST 16, 2022 at the TIDD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 5265 Norwich Street, Hilliard, OH 43026 (614)-876-1722 where his Funeral Service will follow the visitation and begin at 6:30p.m. TUESDAY with Pastor Mark Wildermuth officiating.
