Gary Daniel “Dan” Jewett, 64, owner of Jewett’s IGA in Mt. Sterling, Ohio, died tragically on August 4, 2009, while on a fishing trip in Canada. Dan was a long-standing businessman and supporter of the community. His generosity and mentorship were well known. Dan went into business with his father 43 years ago in Mt. Sterling where his children will carry on his legacy.

Dan Jewett was born May 4, 1945 in Columbus, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his mother Joan Marie Jewett, his father Roy Daniel Jewett, and brother Ronald A. Jewett.

He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 45 years, Rae Jean (Markham) Jewett, daughter Joan LaRae Jewett, son Mark Daniel Jewett and daughter-in-law Rosemary, son Scott Alan Jewett and daughter-in-law Nicole, granddaughter Kylie Rae Jewett, brother Lawrence W. Jewett and sister-in-law Rosemary, and brother Steven E. Jewett and sister-in-law Staci, all of Mt. Sterling. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dan Jewett will be greatly missed by his family, friends and colleagues.

A Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at the Mt. Sterling First Church of the Nazarene 226 N. Market Street.

Rev. Ron Reynolds officiating with the interment following in Pleasant Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial contributions may be given to Loving Care Hospice 55 S. Oak St. London,OH 43140 or Universal Home Health & Hospice 710 S. Main St. Bellfontaine,OH. 43311 (both Madison County Hospice).

Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of PORTER-TIDD FUNERAL HOME, Mt. Sterling.
