Donald Edward Mandel, 83, of Columbus, passed away early Tuesday, September 8, 2020 from complications of multiple myeloma.

Don “Duke” was born October 20, 1936 in Windber, PA. He served in the United States Air Force and then worked as an Air Traffic Controller for the FAA in Oberlin, Ohio for over 25 years. He retired in 1987, but did not quit working until two years ago. He worked for the airlines, was a bus driver in Senecaville, Ohio and more recently worked as a courier/driver for the Cleveland Clinic.

Don was an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns and the Cleveland Indians. He loved to fish, play cards, garden, and was known for his awesome garlic butter made from garlic he grew himself. Don was an active member of the St Margaret of Cortona- Knights of Columbus -Council 12939. He volunteered his time at St Margaret Parish fish fries, festivals, pancake breakfasts and ran the Knights of Columbus Golf League.

Don is preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Anne (Koshute) Mandel and brother, Michael Mandel. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joyce (Frederickson) Mandel, son, Mark (Joanne) Mandel, daughter, Michele (Greg) Soller, son, Terry (Wendy) Mandel, and his grandchildren, Delaney, Michael, Isabelle, Sean, and Thomas. Don is also survived by two sisters, Dolores Novak and Carol (Dave) Yonish both of Windber PA.

Visitation will be FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 2020 at TIDD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 5265 Norwich Street, Hilliard, Ohio 43026 (614)-876-1722 from 6:00-8:00p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00a.m. SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 2020 at ST. MARGARET OF CORTONA CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1600 North Hague Avenue, Columbus, OH 43204 with The Reverend Jeffrey J. Rimelspach, Celebrant.  Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Lockbourne, Ohio.
