Donald “Don” George Edwards passed away on June 25, 2026. Born on November 15, 1940, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he most recently resided in Hilliard, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his mother, Catherine Freund Edwards; his father, Donald W. Edwards; and his brother, Paul Edwards.
A proud welder with B&O and CSX railroads, where he was known for his strong work ethic and unwavering dedication. He retired in 1997.
In 1970, Don married Barbara Joan Febo. Don shared a beautiful partnership and love affair with Barbara for more than 55 years of marriage. He was a devoted father to Amy Lauren Edwards Taylor (Jonathan) and Richard Garrett Edwards (Cynthia); a loving uncle to Matthew Paul Febo; and a proud and deeply cherished “Poppy” to Lincoln Garrett Edwards, Audrey Marion Taylor, and Gabriel Nelson Edwards. Loyal and kind, he always put his family first. His steadfast calm and quiet selflessness inspired deep admiration in those who knew him best.
A lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers fan, Don cheered passionately for his favorite team. A man with a perfect swimming stroke, he once swam across the Allegheny River—an achievement that elevated him to mythic status in the eyes of his children. His love of animals was constant throughout his life, and his home was never complete without a beloved four-legged companion. Many of his cherished pets are sure to be reunited with Don at the Rainbow Bridge.
Don was well known for his patience in all situations, his perfect posture thanks to his Aunt Gertrude’s unique butterknife technique, his love of card and board games, and his gift for telling humorous stories from his Navy adventures - stories that brought smiles and warmth to family and friends alike. He had a wonderful sense of humor and an infectious laugh that invited everyone around him to join in. He will be immeasurably missed by his family in particular and all who knew and loved him.
A private service will be held in Richmond, Virginia, at a later date.
Fair winds and following seas, Sailor.
