Darlene Beck

Darlene Beck, age 86, of Hilliard, passed away peacefully with family at her side on July 27, 2021 after a long illness, ready to reunite with those she loved before she loved us.  Darlene is the daughter of the late Robert J. Farley and Doris Good Farley.   She married the late Joseph P. Beck on February 8, 1958, and they raised four children together.   Darlene led an active life.  She was a committed walker, doing several miles most days.  She earned a patch for the six-mile winter hike at Hocking Hills nearly every year.   Darlene’s passion was gardening and landscaping.  Her yard was, and remains still, a lovely, peaceful place where she could enjoy a cup of coffee and conversation with family and friends.  She was an avid quilter and made quilts for each grandchild at birth.  She enjoyed other crafts as well and won several ribbons at the county fair for her projects.   Darlene was a charter member of Resurrection Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hilliard, Ohio.  She was there in 1961 when they broke ground for the church, which stands now at Main St. and Luther Lane in Hilliard.  Darlene rarely missed a service.  She served on the altar guild, worked on the newsletter, and, of course, did landscaping and gardening at the church.  She served her community, volunteering at Mt. Carmel Medical Center where she was born, leading a Campfire Girls troop, serving on the Hilliard Shade Tree Committee, as well as ushering at the Ohio Theatre.   Darlene was a caring person, assisting several elderly people who had no family to help them.  She loved and spoiled her dogs.  Darlene is survived by her four daughters: Valerie Lacey (Jim), Lynne Becker (Gary), Kimberly Boyd (Terry), and Denise Gallagher (Kevin); grandchildren: Todd, Dan, Amy (Chris), Amanda (Harry), Erin (Christian), Connor, and Shane (Kaitlyn); great grandchildren: Drew, Ava, Jenna, Ryer, and Brooks. The family will greet callers at 11 a. m. on August 14, 2021 at Resurrection Evangelical Lutheran Church (RELC).  A Celebration of Life will follow at 12 p.m. and luncheon will be served after the Celebration.  In lieu of flowers, friends may donate to RELC (write gardening fund on the memo line), 3500 Main St., Hilliard, OH 43026.
