Andrew Starinchak

Andrew (Andy) Elmer Starinchak, 91, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026, at The Sanctuary of Tuttle Crossing in Dublin, Ohio.

Born and raised in Campbell, Ohio, Andy developed a strong work ethic early in life, working as a paperboy and spending summers in the local steel mill. As a young man, he was known for his natural leadership, confident presence, and striking good looks—qualities that stayed with him throughout his life.

He graduated from Campbell Memorial High School in 1952 and Youngstown State University in 1956, where he played football as a guard, lettering in the sport, and served as an officer of the Varsity Y Club. Though he was recruited to play football for legendary coach Woody Hayes, he remained loyal to the Penguins. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Education, studying history and science, and later received his Master of Arts in Education from Westminster College, PA before moving to Columbus in 1965.

Andy devoted his early career to education at Youngstown North High School, where he inspired generations of students with enthusiasm and commitment to learning. He also coached the varsity basketball team, mentoring young athletes, and instilling the values of discipline, teamwork, and perseverance.

In 1961, Andy was selected for a prestigious opportunity to travel to Scandinavia, Czechoslovakia, and Russia during the height of the Cold War. This experience broadened his perspective and enriched his teaching, encouraging students to think critically about the world around them.

In 1965, Andy married Elaine Jones while pursuing studies at The Ohio State University College of Dentistry. Though he briefly considered a career in dentistry, he ultimately returned to his true calling in education. His career later took him into high school administration, where he was an assistant principal and principal in several school districts in the Columbus area, including Dublin, Olentangy, Granville, and Columbus Public Schools.

Andy faced profound loss with the tragic death of his son, Andrew, age 31, who was killed by a drunk driver while riding his bicycle. In the years that followed, he stood steadfastly by Elaine’s side, spending weeks on end at the library researching, editing, and helping her write No Reason to Hide, a book examining the investigation into their son’s death—an enduring testament to a Andy’s Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, May 23, at 12:00 p.m. at Dublin Community Church, 81 W. Bridge St., Dublin, Ohio, with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers please donate to the Boys and Girls Club of Central Ohio. His son’s annual memorial ultimate frisbee tournament, Andy 24, donated the event’s proceeds to this charity.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elaine; his son, Andrew, his parents, Andrew Starinchak and Rose Hudak; and his brothers, Ernest and Edward. He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth (Betsey) Susanne; his son-in-law, Christopher Scott; his cherished grandchildren, Adysan Reese and Tyler Andrew; his sister, Rosemary Danylchak; and nephews Joseph, Edward and Andrew.
